2021 Chevrolet Suburban

When you need a large SUV with room for plenty of cargo and a large crew, the Chevrolet Suburban is a leader in the full-size SUV segment. Check out what's new and improved on the interior and the exterior of the 2021 model.

Trim Levels

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe is a full-size SUV that has an oversized front grille, bold lighting elements, and aggressive styling features, along with a redesigned rear end. It's available in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The base LS trim comes standard with acoustic laminated glass, power and heated side mirrors, LED exterior lighting, roof rails, and 18-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels. The LT adds a hands-free liftgate, while the RST includes a unique front fascia, black trim elements, and larger 22-inch wheels. For outdoor adventurers, the off-road-ready Z71 trim is the best bet, thanks to its upgraded front fascia that increases the approach angle, all-terrain tires, tow hooks, front skid plates, and two-speed transfer case for low-range gearing. The Premier trim includes magnetically controlled shock absorbers. A bronze front grille comes standard with the top-level High Country trim, while a panoramic sunroof is available as an option.

On all trims but the High Country, the standard engine is a 5.3-liter V-8 that's rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear wheels. With the top trim, you get a more powerful 6.2-liter V-8 engine that puts out 460 pound-feet of torque and 420 horsepower. Chevrolet also plans to release a diesel engine that will be available as an option on all trims except the Z71. This engine, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel, will produce 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Although the 2021 Suburban is a large SUV, it handles quite well. The steering is responsive, and the braking system slows the vehicle down quickly. When properly equipped, the Suburban can tow up to 7,800 pounds and haul up to 1,884 pounds. If you want a more luxurious ride, upgrade your model to include the air-spring suspension with adaptive dampers.

Another upgrade that came with the full redesign is the interior space. The 2021 Suburban is longer than the outgoing model and features a slightly longer wheelbase. The base LS trim's cabin comes equipped with seating for eight, cloth upholstery, power front seats, and a six-speaker sound system with a 10.2-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto smartphone integration. Upgrades on the LT trim include driver's seat memory settings, an upgraded Bose audio system, heated front seats, wireless device charging, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Within the RST trim, you'll find contrasting upholstery stitching, while the Z71 has its own styling upgrades. Both the Premier and High Country trims include heated and ventilated front seats, perforated leather upholstery, and a surround-sound Bose sound system. A rear entertainment system is available as an upgrade.

Safety Features

All 2021 Suburban models include forward collision mitigation, stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes, a rearview camera, hill-start assist, and OnStar emergency communications. You can also equip your SUV with a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist.
