There are four powerful engine options for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, including the TurboMax™ engine, EcoTec® 5.3L V8 engine, and more. You want a truck with the power you want, as well as the fuel economy you need. Joe Lunghamer Chevrolet unpacks all the details.

Engine Options

You can choose from four robust engine options for the Chevy Silverado 1500, depending on which trim you choose. The engine options, and their performance specs, include:

  • 2.7-liter TurboMax™ engine – 310 horsepower and a class-leading 430 lb-ft of standard torque
  • 5.3-Liter EcoTec®3 V8 engine – 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.2-liter EcoTec®3 V8 engine – 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • Duramax® 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine – 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque

Fuel Economy

Full-size trucks aren’t always known for their fuel efficiency, although the Chevy Silverado 1500 has notable ratings. The Duramax® 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient option. In fact, it boasts a best-in-class highway fuel economy of 28 mpg.

Improving Your Efficiency

There are many ways that you can improve your efficiency. For starters, limit how often you tow or haul heavy loads and make sure to unload them as soon as possible. Drive with caution and stay a safe distance from other vehicles, so you can avoid rapidly accelerating or braking. Try to avoid idling and use cruise control, when possible. It’s also so important to keep up with routine maintenance because anything that strains your engine, such as old engine oil or uneven tire wear, leads to excess fuel consumption.
