There’s a question that we hear often when people are shopping for a new Chevy Silverado 1500. In a TurboMax™ engine vs. V8 debate, which would win? Joe Lunghamer Chevrolet helps you decide which engine is right for you.

TurboMax™ Engine

The TurboMax™ engine is a 2.7-liter turbocharger four-cylinder engine that delivers up to 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. It has diesel-inspired components, which give it staggering power, while still being efficient. When properly equipped, it helps the 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500 tow up to 9,500 lbs.

5.3-liter EcoTec®3 V8 Engine

The LTZ and High Country models come equipped with a 5.3-liter EcoTec®3 V8 engine, which is also offered on many other trims. It generates up to 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. With the appropriate equipment, it gives the truck an 11,400-lb towing capacity.

6.2-liter EcoTec®3 V8 Engine

For even more power, the full-size truck is available with a 6.2-liter EcoTec®3 V8 engine. It produces a robust 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It also increases the truck’s towing power to a whopping 13,200 lbs when properly equipped.

Duramax® 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel Engine

In addition to the TurboMax™ and V8 engines, the 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500 is also available with a diesel engine. It’s offered with a Duramax® 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine, which generates up to 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. With diesel power, the full-size truck can tow up to 13,300 lbs when properly equipped.
